Tasha (United States) спрашивает:
Do we read from the Torah?

It's written (Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Sanhedrin 59a):
"Rabbi Meir used to say: whence do we know that even one of those from the peoples of the world who studies the Torah is like a Kohen Gadol (High Priest - Biblical language translation)? From the verse (Vayikra 18:5):
You shall observe My statutes and My ordinances, which a man shall do and live by them [in the World to Come, for if you say in this world, does he not eventually die? - RASHI's comment]. I am the L-rd [Faithful to pay a reward - RASHI's comment].
Kohanim (Priests who origin from the tribe of Levi - Biblical language translation), Leviim (the tribe of Levi - Biblical language translation) and Israelites (other Jewish tribes - author's comment) are not mentioned, but man is mentioned. Thus hence you learn that even one of those from the peoples of the world who studies the Torah is like a Kohen Gadol - This refers to their own Seven Laws [One learns those Seven Laws to be an expert on them - RASHI's comment]".
And that includes all laws of Talmud regarding Biblical jurisprudence, all moral features and stories from Talmud and the entire Holy Scripture with comments (including RASHI). It is also important to study the second part of the book of Tanya, which is called "The Gate of Unity and Faith". This book is extremely important for proper understanding of monotheism conception. There's English translation available from our site (the link is to the right below).
